Abstract
LABORATORY STUDY OF NANO SIZE VARIATION OF HEMATITE Fe2O3 ON DRILLING CEMENT STRENGTH HILAL HAMDI NPM 183210599 ABSTRACT Cementing is an important part in a drilling activity. Improper cementing will cause channeling to form in the cement, cement quality can be affected by the value of the compressive strength and shear bond strength of a cement. Additives that have been added to increase the compressive strength and shear bond strength of the drilling cement. Nanoparticle sizes have different characteristics, due to the dimensions of nanoscale particles, nanomaterials have many attractive properties, which can play an important role in maintaining borehole stability, improving well cementing quality, repairing damaged reservoirs, improving oil and gas recovery efficiency, and purifying wastewater. Several types of nanoparticles such as nano-SiO2 (NS), nano-Al2O3 (NA), nano-TiO2 (NT), nano-Fe2O3 (NF) are considered as cement additives. Instead of using the common NS and NT, this final project research focuses on examining the potential of NF as a cement additive due to its abundant amount. NF was obtained by synthesizing iron stone from Jorong Pasalolo, Nagari Lolo, Pantai Cermin District, Solok Regency, West Sumatra using the coprecipitation method. Particle Size Analyzer (PSA) testing was carried out to determine the size of NF particles formed after the calcination process. The test results show that the value of NF particles is 623 nm. NF can affect compressive strength with an optimum concentration of 1% NF BWOC, which is 2596.7873418 psi. Similarly, in the shear bond strength test, the optimum concentration of 1% NF BWOC is 431.28941655 psi. In the thickening time test, it was found that NF reduced the thickening time with the addition of concentrations of 1%, 2%, 3%, and 5% so that the cement powder hardens faster. nano-Fe2O3, Particle Size Analyzer, compressive strength, shear bond strength, thickening time
