Abstract
Entering the current era of globalization, many changes have a major impact on society and provide convenience in various ways, one of which is in buying and selling activities which can now be done online. This development has led to impacts such as free trade, which is now widely circulated online with various brands, all of which are not necessarily safe. However, many businesses strive to earn large profits with small expenses while producing products of the same quality as other brands with low production costs. Therefore, they reduce production costs by using cheap chemicals that tend to have harmful ingredients such as cosmetics that contain mercury. The main problem of this research is how online shop businesses are responsible for consumer losses caused by dangerous cosmetics containing mercury in Pekanbaru and how consumers are legally protected from the effects of these dangerous cosmetics. This research uses empirical research, or research related to field data, such as the results of interviews and observations. The author conducts research to find out how online shop businesses are responsible for customers who are harmed by using dangerous cosmetics containing mercury. The results show that business actors are not responsible for consumers who experience problems and losses caused by the use of dangerous cosmetics. On the contrary, according to Article 19 of GCPL, business actors must be responsible for consumers who experience problems and losses by providing compensation and compensation. In reality, business actors in the field do not provide any responsibility which clearly harms consumers or violates the Consumer Protection law which regulates the rights and obligations of consumers and business actors to protect consumers against the circulation of hazardous cosmetics.
