Abstract
Oil production from the reservoir will naturally decrease or even not produce at all. If you only rely on the primary production method (primary recovery), there is a possibility that there is still a lot of remaining oil in the reservoir. Therefore, an advanced production method is needed to drain the remaining oil in the reservoir. Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) is a way to obtain oil by injecting materials that are not normally present in reservoirs to increase oil recovery in the form of chemical injections such as polymers. Polymers are classified into two namely natural and synthetic polymers. This research focuses on synthetic polymers. Synthetic polymers are broadly classified into degradable and nondegradable based on chemical reactivity. The purpose of this study was to screen polymers at various concentrations and salinities of formation water on a laboratory scale. This research was conducted using three synthetic polymers and the properties tested were viscosity, compatibility, shear rate, and thermal stability. The results of these tests were obtained, the synthetic polymer did not agglomerate at 60°C, 70°C, and 80°C. At the same time, the test viscosity increases with increasing polymer concentration. The polymer concentration of 15000 has the highest viscosity value, namely 26.3 cP. The effect of the shear rate test from 300 to 600 RPM causes the apparent viscosity of the polymer to decrease because the polymer chain decreases due to considerable friction, and the decrease in the viscosity value in the thermal stability test is quite stable.
