Abstract

Illocutionary speech acts discuss attitudes and expressions regarding a person's actions in communicating with studies focused on speakers and speech partners because they have to understand who the speakers and speech partners are, what the situation is, and what the context is. Illocutionary speech acts besides functioning to express something, also function to do something. In a speech act, one utterance contains two purposes, namely to inform and to order something to be done. In Najwa's note program on Youtube you can find types of illocutionary speech acts. The problem of this research is how are the assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative illocutionary acts contained in the Najwa Notes program on Youtube with the theme The Difficulty of Being a Woman? This study aims to describe and analyze the types of illocutionary speech acts found in the Najwa Notes program on Youtube. The theory used in this study is the theory of J.R. Searle (in Tarigan, 2009). The research approach is a qualitative approach. The method used in this study is the descriptive method of document analysis or content analysis by Bungin (2017). The data in this study are all the utterances of the presenter and resource person which are included in the type of illocutionary speech act. Data collection techniques use documentation techniques, observation techniques, and note-taking techniques. Based on the research data, it can be concluded that 162 speech data were found which were illocutionary speech acts. 116 assertive illocutionary speech acts, 21 directive speech acts, 3 commissive speech acts, 19 expressive speech acts, and 3 declarative speech acts. Assertive speech acts are often found in this study because speakers express thoughts and convey information to their speech partners. The few speech acts found in this study were commissive speech acts and declarative speech acts. This happens because in commissive speech acts the speaker only says to commit himself to future actions and in declarative speech acts because speech acts that impact on situations or circumstances are typical speech acts that can be carried out by someone who has special authority in particular organization or institution.
