Abstract

The number of crimes in human life is very large and is included in the social symptoms that will always be faced by every human, society and country in general. The application of upholding this law is a very good effort in improving the quality of people and society in the country. The main problems in this study are what are the factors causing the occurrence of motorcycle theft in the jurisdiction of the West Dumai Police Station and how are the police efforts to overcome the crime of motorcycle theft in the jurisdiction of the West Dumai Police Station. The research method is a type of empirical legal research with descriptive analytical research characteristics, which provides a clear picture of the criminological review of overcoming motorcycle theft crimes in the jurisdiction of the West Dumai Police Station. The results of the study show that the causes of motorcycle theft in the jurisdiction of the West Dumai Police are 2 factors, namely endogenous factors that come from the impetus that occurs from himself and exogenous factors that come from factors created from outside himself, this factor can be said to be quite complex and varied. Furthermore, the police's efforts in tackling the crime of motorcycle theft in the jurisdiction of the West Dumai Police are carried out by pre-emtif steps where the West Dumai Police will prioritize appeals and approaches to the community with the aim of avoiding the emergence of potential social problems and crimes in the community, in this case the police pre-emtif action is carried out by persuasive communication and inviting the community not to do things that are prohibited according to social rules and norms carried out by the community development function (Binmas).
