Abstract

Heavy oil and oilsand are generally defined using API gravity, API gravity is defined as a uniform way to characterize the density or specific gravity of oil by the American Petroleum Institute. Heavy oil has an API gravity of less than 20°. The thermal method is used to reduce the viscosity of heavy oil to increase the mobility of the oil. In the US, thermal production using steam is the primary means of production. Being one of the most popular among thermal methods, steam injection is not always successfully applied in real conditions. High heat loss from injected wells and reservoirs, low injection reservoirs, especially for bituminous deposits, steam leaks and other environmental problems. Electromagnetic heating can also be considered as an alternative to thermal technology. Induction heating is the process of heating an electrically conducting object by producing an electric current in a part caused by an electromagnetic force field. Resistance to the flow of electric current which generates heat. This research will discuss induction heating to see the temperature distribution around the wellbore using COMSOL multiphysics. COMSOL multiphysics is a software that belongs to Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) software or in other words this software is used to model and calculate parameters contained in dynamic fluid flows. That way, the results of the induction heating simulation research for 24 hours get the best use of power at 15000 Watts compared to 5000 and 10000 Watts, which results in higher temperatures. The best viscosity reduction was at 15000 Watt power for 1 hour and 5000 Watt power for 12 hours which reduced the viscosity by 100 Cp indicating that greater power does not necessarily reduce viscosity better.Induction Heating (IH), Electromagnetic (EM), COMSOL
