Abstract

Juvenile delinquency is a crime against young people which is included in negative acts in the social environment. One of the factors causing delinquency in adolescents occurs is influenced by social media. Social media that offers ease of use and can be accessed without any restrictions where things that are impossible to happen and cannot be obtained are easily obtained and happen. Such as beatings, free sex, fraud, kidnapping, and other juvenile delinquency due to social media. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the intensity of social media use on juvenile delinquency in SMA N 1 in Kampar Kiri. The research subjects totaled 112 people. The sampling technique used is stratified random sampling. The data collection method uses the intensity scale of social media use adapted from Bagas (2021) based on the Ajzen aspect (in Frisnawati, 2012) and the juvenile delinquency scale adapted from Susanti (2020). Data were analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS) with smartPLS 3.0 M3 software. The results of this study can be concluded that the influence of the intensity of social media use on juvenile delinquency is 0.789 with a p value of 0.000 <0.05 and a t value of 16.182. This value is greater than t table for n=112 and k=2 is 1.96. Because t count 16.182> t table 1.96. So it can be concluded that the intensity of social media use has a positive and significant effect on juvenile delinquency, so the hypothesis is accepted. This means that the higher the level of intensity of social media use, the higher the juvenile delinquency in students. Vice versa, the lower the level of intensity of social media use, the lower the juvenile delinquency in students.
