Abstract

The most common material used to make full dentures is hot polymerized acrylic resin. Although aesthetic needs have been met, mechanical requirements are still far from ideal, especially in terms of impact and tensile strength. This research was conducted to increase the strength of the denture base material, such as by adding glass fiber and polypropylene fiber to the denture base material. Samples are made to determine the mechanical properties of a material, it is necessary to test the hardness, impact strength and tensile strength test. With variations in fiber composition is 95% resin + 5% polypropylene fiber.. 95% resin + 5% glass fiber. 95% resin + 2% polypropylene fiber + 3% glass fiber. 95% resin + 3% polypropylene fiber + 2% glass fiber. With the aim of getting the right composition and increasing the strength of a material and elasticity. From the results of hardness testing, the largest hardness value is 12.86 Kg/mm² with a volume fraction of 95% resin + 3% polypropylene fiber + 2% glass fiber, for the greatest impact toughness is 0.44 J/mm² with a volume fraction of 95% resin + 3% polypropylene fiber + 2% glass fiber, and for tensile testing the greatest tensile strength value is 20,3 MPa, and with the largest elastic modulus value is 951,56 MPa with a volume fraction of 95% resin + 3% polypropylene fiber + 2% glass fiber. It can be concluded that the addition of glass fiber and polypropylene fiber can increase the strength of a material on the denture base.
