Abstract
EVALUATION OF BREAKWATER PERFORMANCE AGAINST WAVES AT TANJUNG MEDANG BEACH, RANGSANG DISTRICT, MERANTI ISLANDS REGENCY FAUZAN AZIMA 173110781 ABSTRACT Tanjung Medang Beach is a fishing/fishing area located on the coast of Rangsang island precisely in Tanjung Medang Village, Rangsang District, Meranti Islands regency. The beach has been abrasion and damage caused by large waves so that the handling is done by building breakwater (breakwater) to protect beaches, ports, and residential communities on the coast. Over time, changes in natural conditions and the occurrence of global warming resulting in an increase in sea level elevation that affects the effectiveness of the performance of the breakwater, and based on information from the local community and fishermen the building is not optimal in holding the waves that come when the tide is high. It is necessary to analyze the wave characteristics and performance evaluation of breakwater against incoming waves. Wave forecasting analysis was conducted using wave hindcasting method based on the last 10 years of wind data from BMKG Raja Haji Abdullah Tanjung Balai Karimun to obtain wave characteristics in the form of wave height, wave period and wave transformation. Then determine the sea level elevation by admiralty method, and analysis of run-up and overtopping waves to analyze breakwater performance. The results of the analysis of wave characteristics in Tanjung Medang Beach is dominated by waves in the northeast direction with a height above 1 m so that it is included in the criteria for destructive waves or waves that can damage the beach . Based on the results of research and analysis of run-up on the breakwater height 3 m known wave run-up values that occur in the state of the highest water level (HHWL) from the North 2.25 m, Northeast 1.56 m, East 1.14 m, Southeast 0.83 m and from the northwest 1.14 m overtopping occurs based on the terms (0?(h-ds)/R<1.0), indicating that's coming. On breakwater with a height of 1.6 m shows that the performance of the breakwater is not effective in reducing the waves.Tanjung Medang Breakwater, hindcasting, wave characteristics, wave transformation, run-up and wave overtopping
