Abstract

Based on the phenomenon of the Haluan Riau newspaper, especially the editorial, there are still language errors. These language errors tend to be seen at the level of syntax in the fields of phrases and sentences. Based on this, the problems in this study are; 1. What are the language errors at the syntax level of the phrase field in the editorial of the Haluan Riau newspaper?, 2. How are the language errors at the syntax level of the sentence field in the editorial of the Haluan Riau newspaper? The purpose of this study is to describe, classify and analyze language errors at the syntactic level in the fields of phrases and sentences in the editorials of the Haluan Riau newspaper, so as to obtain actual results. The method in this research is the method of Content Analysis (Content Analysis). The source of data in this study is the Haluan Riau newspaper. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. This type of research is library (library research). Based on the results and discussion, there were errors in the editorial of the Haluan Riau newspaper including: language errors at the syntax level of the phrase field as many as 17 data, namely; inappropriate use of prepositions, and excessive or redundant use of elements. There were 78 data errors found at the syntax level of the sentence field, namely; sentences that have no subject and no predicate (stupid sentences), the use of foreign terms, and the use of unnecessary question words. It can be concluded that there were 95 mistakes in the editorial of the Riau bow newspaper.
