Abstract

In the world of civil engineering construction built on peat soil, there are many problems that must be faced, for example the shear strength of the peat soil. This can be harmful and detrimental to the construction of the building above it. This study aims to determine the effect of adding vege grout varieties on the shear strength of peat soils using the vege grout method The original peat soil was taken at the location of Kualu Nenas Village, Kampar Regency, Riau Province, the mustard greens waste material came from a traditional market in Pekanbaru city and the additional materials used were CaCl2 and Urea. This research method refers to ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) and SNI procedures. The specimens were made using a modified sondir tool with a cylindrical shape with a diameter of 3.5 cm and a height of 7 cm2. The objects were made following standard compaction at an optimum moisture content of 132%. The shear strength test was carried out after the sample was added Vege grout mustard greens with variations of 0%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 30%. The data obtained from the results of this test are processed in the form of tables and graphs according to the variations in the addition of mustard greens vege grout. The effect of adding mustard greens vege grout results in a higher shear strength than the original soil, so that it is related to the bearing strength of peat soil. The results of testing the physical properties of the original peat soil found that the soil originating from the location of Buana Makmur Village km 55, Dayun District, Siak Regency was classified as peat soil with a water content of 351.092% and specific weight (Gs) = 1,530. From the results of the shear strength test of the original soil specimen with variations in the vege grout mixture at percentages of 0%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30%, the free compressive strength value of the original soil specimen + addition of 0% vege grout is 0.10 kg/cm2, while the highest shear strength value was found in the addition of 20% vege grout of 0.98 kg/cm2.
