Abstract

Parking is one of the important land use systems in transportation because it will have an impact on the choice of transportation modes and affect the transportation system both in the long and short term. With the addition of students every year at the Islamic University of Riau causing traffic jams, without being balanced with adequate parking space. Riau Islamic University is one of the areas with all forms of activity with various activities in it. The activities contained in it are not only one type but more than one type of activity carried out by students. So it is necessary to know the characteristics of student travel to campus at the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education and what factors influence students in choosing modes of transportation. In this study using a qualitative method where questionnaires were distributed directly to students of the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Based on the results of the analysis that has been carried out, the choice of mode of transportation that is mostly used by students of the Faculty of Economics is two-wheeled vehicles, namely as much as 71% with SIM A and SIM C ownership of 36% with the type of residence, namely boarding 50% with a distance to campus of 5 km to 42% of 10 km with travel time based on class schedules 57% with the reason for choosing the mode used, namely based on availability of 38% and the Teaching and Education Faculty, two-wheeled vehicles namely 86% with SIM A and SIM C ownership of 36% with the type of residence, namely boarding 59% with the distance to campus 1 km to 44% with travel time based on class schedules 62% with the reason for choosing the mode used, namely based on cheap prices as much as 30%. For the factors that influence student travel to campus, namely based on the ownership of the vehicle used, the distance to where they live, the reason for choosing mode and income or monthly pocket money.
