Abstract

Motivation to learn is very important so that students can excel, but in fact the motivation to learn in Indonesian children is low. Several previous studies linked learning motivation with self-concept. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is a positive relationship between self-concept and learning motivation in junior high school students. Subjects in this research amounted to 159 students. The sampling technique used is a non-probability sampling technique in the form of purposive sampling. The data collection technique uses two scales, namely, the concept scale which consists of 31 items and the motivation scale which consists of 25 items. The data analysis technique used is pearson product moment correlation. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between self-concept and learning motivation in students of SMP X Siak Hulu. The results of the statistical analysis showed that the correlation coefficient (r) = 0.289 with a significance value of 0.000 (p <0.05) means that the more positive the self-concept, the higher the level of learning motivation in a student, and vice versa.
