Abstract

The attractiveness of the entertainment industry from South Korea has generated many fans around the world, including Indonesia. The most used social media by K-Pop fans is Twitter. K-Pop fans don't look at age, many adults still idolize Korean idols. Being a fan can lead to an obsession with deep interest in the idol which gives rise to celebrity worship. One of the reasons for the emergence of celebrity worship is due to low psychological well-being which is characterized by excessive worship of idols. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between psychological well-being and celebrity worship among early adult K-Pop fans who use Twitter. The research subjects were 289 early adults aged 18-25 years who used Twitter. The sampling approach used is non-probability sampling and the technique used is incidental sampling. The data collection method used is to use a Likert scale. The scale used is the Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS) which was compiled by Maltby et al (2006) and adapted by Khabibah (2022) with a total of 33 items to measure celebrity worship, as well as the Psychological Well-being scale developed by Aini (2019) based on aspects put forward by Ryff (2008) with a total of 22 items to measure psychological well-being. The data analysis used is the Pearson product correlation with the results of the correlation coefficient r of 0.083 with a significance of 0.161 (p> 0.05). It can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between psychological well-being and celebrity worship among early adult K-Pop fans who use Twitter.
