Abstract
ABSTRACT The form of this research is Classroom Action Research (PTK), with the aim of improving the learning process in terms of teacher and student activities so that it can improve the mathematics learning process of class VIII students at SMPN 2 Hutaraja Tinggi in the matter of the Two-Variable Linear Equation System (SPLDV), through application of the Discovery Learning approach. The subjects in this study were 26 class VIIIb students in the 2022/2023 school year with heterogeneous abilities. Data collection took place from 31 October 2022 to 16 November 2022 which consisted of two cycles, each cycle consisting of planning, action, observation and reflection stages. The data collection instrument used in this study was observation sheets of teacher activities and student activities where the results showed that there had been an increase in the learning process through activities carried out by students in the learning process so that students were actively involved. Activities carried out by students during the learning process are visual activities, oral activities, listening activities, writing activities, mental activities and emotional activities. From the results of the research above, it can be concluded that the application of the Discovery Learning approach can improve the learning process in mathematics for class VIIIb students of SMPN 2 Hutaraja Tinggi for the 2022/2023 academic year, especially in the material on the Two-Variable Linear Equation System.
