Abstract

The phenomenon that occurs in the current era of information and communication technology development is the appearance of the paylater feature. The Shopee Paylater feature is a payment method that provides installment facilities without a credit card with a system of buying products now and paying for transactions at a later date. This study aims to explain the new phenomenon of student consumptive behavior in Pekanbaru City by using Shopee Paylater. This study uses the phenomenological theory of Alfred Schuzt, namely using because motive and in order to motive. This study used a descriptive qualitative method using data collection techniques through interviews, observation and documentation. Retrieval of informants using the Snowball Sampling technique consisting of 4 active students in Pekanbaru City who are consumptive using Shopee Paylater. Based on the results of the study it was found that because the motive influencing the consumptive behavior of students in using Shopee Paylater as a new payment method is due to the convenience of shopping supported by available promos such as free shipping, discounted prices and cashback, as well as being influenced by the friendship environment so that they go shopping too, but the main thing is that students are interested in using Shopee Paylater because the limit is getting bigger. While in order to motive, students shop using Shopee Paylater with the aim of fulfilling their needs and desires, an instant lifestyle, being a solution when there is an urgent need to maintain student self-appearance and of course shopping for fun.
