Abstract
SELF-CONSTRUCTION OF METROSEXUAL STUDENTS (Studies in Riau Islamic University Students) Surya Indra Kirana (159110097) This study aims to find out two things, namely explaining the self-construction of metrosexual men in the Islamic University of Riau and. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques using primary data through observation and in-depth interviews as well as secondary data through journals, books and articles. The informants in this study were three metrosexual men and four friends of metrosexual men. The analysis of this research uses the theory of symbolic interactionism by Herbert Mead which is explained in three domains, namely mind, self and society. The results of the study show that the self-construction of metrosexual men in this study is a form of self-awareness of the importance of the appearance they show to their surroundings as a form of self-satisfaction for a personal pleasure whose effect is to get public praise from what they wear. The supporting factors that make students become metrosexual men include women's emancipation, the influence of capitalism and advertisements or information on social media through influencer role fashion modes that they follow. In the form of social interaction, it is based on indicators of verbal interaction such as style of everyday language, nature and behavior towards communicants, and responses to stigma. Then in the non-verbal interactions of metrosexual men such as body language, the signs or symbols they use tend to be close to non-metrosexual men. It's just that what distinguishes metrosexual men is that they show more of their feminine side by being friendly and humble so that it will be easy for them to socialize in society by using different language styles to suit the environment in which they are different. However, in the use of everyday language they are used to speaking in slang which mixes Indonesian and English. Besides that, gentle behavior towards their partners makes them in my nickname as romantic men.
