Abstract

High school students (SMA) are included in the adolescent phase. At a young age, it will be very difficult to make a choice, because adolescence is still unstable, therefore, to make a choice, students should do guidance and get directions from the people closest to them and people who are trusted and who are considered reliable. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between peer social support and high school student decision making. The data collection method in this study was to use the Social Support scale, in this study the researchers modified it from the scale compiled by Idris (2017) which was compiled based on the dimensions developed by Cohen which consisted of 25 items and used the Decision Making scale modified by researchers from a scale that designed by Inkaza (2022) based on the aspects put forward by Rivai (2007) with a total of 40 items. The sample of this research was 125 students of class 12 SMA Bagan Batu who were obtained through a non-probability sampling technique, namely accidental sampling technique. Hypothesis testing was carried out using Pearson product moment correlation analysis, a correlation coefficient of 0.560 was obtained with a significant value of 0.000 (p <0.05). It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship in a positive direction between peer social support and high school student decision making. The higher the social support of peers, the better the ability of high school students to make decisions.
