Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and kecemasan sosial. Kecemasan sosial is caused by several factors including self-esteem. The number of teenagers who currently still have low self-esteem which affects their kecemasan sosial so that they are less able to interact well with their social environment. The data collection method in this study used a self-esteem scale consisting of 34 appropriate items and a kecemasan sosial scale consisting of 35 items. The sample in this study amounted to 400 adolescents in Pekanbaru City which were obtained through the probability sampling method, namely random sampling. The data analysis method used in this study is the Spearman Rho method. The correlation coefficient between Self-esteem and Social-anxiety is (r) = -.739, and a significant value is known to be 0.000 0.05. This shows that social-anxiety and low self-esteem are negatively correlated, in other words Instagram users in Pekanbaru City have a lower level of social-anxiety when they have higher self-esteem. In contrast, Instagram users in Pekanbaru City have a higher level of Social-anxiety when they have lower Self-esteem.
