Abstract

Learning Indonesian requires students to be able to write literary works, both in the form of scientific and non- scientific writings such as short stories. The fact found that there are still many students who are unable to write short stories. One model that can be applied in learning Indonesian, especially the aspect of short story writing skills, is the project learning model. The purpose of this study was to see the effect of the project method on the learning outcomes of students' short story writing at SMPN 26 Pekanbaru in the 2022/2023 academic year. This research is a quantitative research with correlation method. The population in this study were class VIII students of SMPN 26 Pekanbaru, namely 30 students. The sample is saturated sampling. Data collection techniques are questionnaires, interviews, and tests. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis and uses a simple regression test. The results showed that the implementation of learning using the project had an effect on students' writing abilities, this can be seen by obtaining an average value of students' short story writing ability results of 85.28 in the high category, and a correlation value of 0.21 was obtained, which means that the effect of the project on students' ability to write short story texts is 21%. The conclusion in this study is that the use of the project method will make students interested in taking lessons, because it is in accordance with the characteristics they have. Students' interest in participating in the learning process helps students accept the material presented and will help students to improve their ability to write short story texts.
