Abstract
The population of K-Pop fans has increased in recent years giving rise to many new phenomena, one of which is Fear of Missing Out and social media addiction, FoMO behavior is one of the factors increasing the intensity of social media use to the point of addiction. This study aims to determine the relationship between FoMO and social media addiction in students of the Faculty of Psychology, Islamic University of Riau by involving 282 samples selected through the Purposive Random Sampling technique. Data collection uses the Fear Of Missing Out Scale by Przybylski and the Social Media Addiction Scale (SMAS) developed by Menayes. The method of data analysis using Spearman Rank Order obtained a correlation value of 0.630 (> 0.05) with a significance of 0.000, obtained a coefficient of determination R2 of 0.3969. This shows that there is a positive and significant relationship between the Fear of Missing Out variable and social media addiction. The higher the FoMO, the higher the addiction to social media for students of the Faculty of Psychology, Riau Islamic University and vice versa. The variable effective contribution is 39.69% social media addiction to Fear of Missing Out, the rest is influenced by other factors.
