Abstract
THE EFFECT OF SOCIAL MEDIA USE ON THE QUALITY OF FRIENDSHIP IN ADOLESCENT NUR'AINI 188110229 FACULTY OF PSYCHOLOGY ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY OF RIAU ABSTRACT This study aims to investigate the effect of using social media on the quality of friendship in adolescents. The subjects in this study were students of State High School 1 Kuantan Mudik with a total sample of 187 students. The sampling technique was done by simple random sampling. The data collection method uses a scale of social media use and friendship quality. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression which found that there was a significant effect between the use of social media on the quality of friendship in adolescents at SMA Negeri 1 Kuantan Mudik as evidenced by the results of the partial significance test (t test) with a significance value of 0.000 (sig.< 0.05). The contribution of the influence of social media use on the quality of friendship in adolescents from the R Square value is 38.8%, while the remaining 61.2% is influenced by other variables apart from social media variables. The results of the regression coefficient test show that the regression coefficient value of the social media variable is positive, thus the direction of the influence of social media on the quality of friendship is positive
