Abstract

Narcissistic behaviour on social media is common and worldwide from teenagers to adults and not only ordinary people, elites such as presidents, officials, and celebrities have also been infected with narcissistic behaviour. Students are required to be able to use social medical wisely but in reality there are still many students found to have a level of social media addiction that is less able to control themselves. They often boast about themselves, often take pictures to show off to others by uploading them to their social networks. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between self-control and narcissistic tendencies in students using a sample of 249 students of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Islamic University of Riau who use Instagram social media. The sampling method of this study used random sampling. The research analysis used the Pearson product moment correlation test. The results of the analysis conducted show that there is a negative relationship between self-control and narcissism in students of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Islamic University of Riau (r = 0, 253, p = 0.000). The higher the self-control, the lower the Narcissism.
