Abstract

Confidence is a very important aspect of personality in life. By confidently someone is able to face unfulfilled expectations, they continue to be positive thinking and accept themselves. In contrast, insecure people tend to rely excessively on the approval of others to feel good about them. As a result, they tend to avoid risks because they are afraid of failure. This study has a research objective, namely to find out whether there is a relationship between body image and self-confidence in students at the Islamic University of Riau. The subjects in this study were 213 UIR psychology faculty students. In this study, researchers used the probability sampling method, namely simple random sampling. This study uses a body image scale adopted from the 2017 Khikmah study with a total of 28 items and a self-confidence scale adopted from the 2018 Pangestiano study with 18 items. Analysis of the data used is the pearson product moment with a correlation coefficient (r) = 0.457. The research results show that there is a positive relationship between body image and self-confidence in students of the Faculty of Psychology, Islamic University of Riau. This means that the higher the body image of students, the higher the self-confidence of students, and vice versa the lower the body image, the lower the self-confidence.
