Abstract

Smartphone Addiction is a problem that is quite serious, especially among teenagers. Excessive use of smartphones can cause many teenagers to spend their time only using smartphones, so this can reduce their productivity and potentially affect academic achievement for students. Self-control is one of the factors that can cause a person to experience Smartphoe Addiction due to low self-control in a person. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-control and Smartphone Addiction in psychology students at Riau Islamic University. The number of samples is 90 students. determining the sample in this study using simple random sampling. Data collection in this study used the smartphone Addiction scale and self-control scale, each of which consisted of 30 items and 21 items. Based on the results of Spearman's Non-Parametric correlation test, the data showed a correlation value of r = -0.874 with a value of p = 0.000, meaning that there was a negative relationship between self-control and smartphone addiction in psychology students at the Islamic University of Riau. The results showed that there was a negative relationship between self-control and smartphone addiction in psychology students at Riau Islamic University.
