Abstract

This study was motivated by the low teachers’ competencies at MTs Al-Jauhar of Duri, Riau, Indonesia. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of intellectual ability on the teachers’ competencies at MTs Al-Jauhar of Duri, Riau, Indonesia. This was a quantitative study with a correlational approach. The population of the study amounted to 38 teachers and the entire population was studied thoroughly to obtain maximum results. The data collection techniques of the study were questionnaires and documentation. The data analysis techniques of the study were descriptive test, normality test, linearity test and hypothesis test. The results of the study indicated that based on the descriptive test, the level of intellectual ability was 94.05% included in the "very good" category. While the level of teachers’ competencies was 92.86% which was in the "very strong" category. So, there was an influence of intellectual ability on teachers’ competencies at MTs Al-Jauahar of Duri, Riau, Indonesia. The results of the hypothesis test stating that there was an influence of intellectual ability on teachers’ competencies was accepted with a significance value of 0.000, then 0.000 <0.05. The magnitude of the influence of intellectual ability on teachers’ competencies was 0.556 or 55.6% included in the range of 0.40 - 0.599 or in the "moderate" category. The contribution of variable X (intellectual ability) if applied to the regression coefficient was 0.710, which can be predicted that if the intellectual ability was improved and applied, it could increase the teachers’ competencies by 71.0% and if it was not improved and applied, it would decrease the teachers’ competencies by 71.0%. In conclusion, the results of the study showed that there was an influence of intellectual ability on the teachers’ competencies at MTs Al-Jauhar of Duri, Riau, Indonesia.
