Abstract
This research aims to analyze 1) characteristics of breeders and profile of laying duck farming business 2) provision of production facilities for laying ducks 3) egg laying duck farming business and 4) development strategy for egg-laying duck farming in Kampar Regency, Riau Province. The research method used a survey method, the sample consists of forty three farmers with purposive sampling, descriptive analysis is used to analyze the characteristics of farmers and livestock business profiles, provision of duck livestock production facilities and laying duck livestock businesses. Formulation of development strategy for egg-laying duck farming business using SWOT analysis with fifty two respondents consisting of forty three egg-laying duck farmers, five traders, two people from Kampar Regency Animal Husbandry Service and two experts from Faculty of Animal Husbandry Lecturer. The research results show that : 1) the age of duck farmers is in the productive age group, with the majority having graduated from high school, with an average experience of 4 years in duck farming and an average number of family dependents of three to four people, 2) provision of inappropriate production facilities, especially in the provision of seeds and feed, because there is no supplier of laying duck seeds in Kampar Regency, 3) the average total production cost is Rp. 479,782,187 per year with feed costs reaching 84.83% of the total production costs due to the lack of innovation and technology for the use of alternative feed used by farmers with RCR 1.15, 4) based on the SWOT analysis, the strategy for developing the egg-laying duck farming business is the SO strategy, namely a very profitable situation where the livestock business has opportunities and strengths so that it can take advantage of existing opportunities, internal factors that influence the development of duck farming businesses in Kampar Regency are dependence on manufactured feed which results in high production costs, while the external factor is the high and unstable price of duck feed.
