Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning process and improve students' mathematical communication skills through the Application of Number Head Together (NHT) Cooperative Learning. This research is a classroom action research with the subject of class VIIIG students of SMP in the academic year 2015/2016 on cube and block material. Data collection techniques in this study were observation techniques and test techniques. The research instrument used teacher and student observation sheets and student mathematics communication skills test sheets. The results of this study indicate that there is an increase in the learning process in the classroom which is marked by the increase in student learning activities as seen on the observation sheet. The improvement of students' mathematics communication skills can be seen from the basic score to UH I, from UH I to UH II. The percentage of students' mathematics communication skills who reached the KKM on the basic score was 36.33%, at UH I was 31.74% and at UH II was 40.65%. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the application of the NHT type of cooperative learning application can improve the learning process and improve the mathematics communication skills of class VIIIG students of SMP in the 2015/2016 academic year.
