Abstract

The problem in this study is that students do not reflect discipline in the school environment with violations of school rules. This research uses a type of qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The subjects in this study were school principals, teachers and students. The results showed that the strategy used by the teacher in instilling the character of student discipline was to develop plans and learning tools that contained the values of the character of discipline, to approach values through example and provide guidance to students, to make written and unwritten rules, to take a value clarification approach through punishment and reward, as well as doing habits in daily routine activities, weekly activities, spontaneous activities and structured activities of students. The classroom teacher's strategy in instilling the character of student discipline is inseparable from the presence of supporting and inhibiting factors. Supporting factors include the existence of control from the principal, support from parents, teacher involvement, and student self-awareness. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors are students' self-awareness factors, family factors and environmental factors. The implications of this research are expected to have an impact on teacher strategies in instilling the disciplinary character of elementary school students.
