Abstract
This study aims to obtain an objective and comprehensive picture of: a) How is the attitude of tolerance of grade IV students of SDN 21 Pekanbaru; b) What are the strategies of teachers to foster tolerance of grade IV students of SDN 21 Pekanbaru. This researcher applies qualitative research using a descriptive approach. Although this type of research uses a phenomenological method and aims for researchers to easily describe in detail the teacher's strategy in instilling an attitude of tolerance in students. In this study, interviews, observations, and documentation are data collection techniques. The research instruments used were questionnaire sheets, interview guide sheets and documentation. The results of the study showed that: The attitude of tolerance possessed by students is an attitude of mutual respect and respect such as apologizing if they make mistakes, respecting friends' opinions, not making fun of friends of different religions and being harmonious in learning activities, while the teacher's strategy for building tolerance of grade IV students of SDN 21 Pekanbaru is 1) by providing examples or role models to always respect every human being 2) with heterogeneous group learning aimed at being able to work together and exchange ideas in studying a material without looking at differences 3) the last strategy carried out is with habituation activities such as respecting other people's opinions, not interrupting and raising hands before asking questions. The implication of this research is that we can identify several strategies that can be implemented in the learning process to make learning more meaningful.
