Abstract

Liberica coffee is known for its distinctive aroma, larger beans, and ability to grow in peat soil, but it faces challenges related to pests and fertilizer needs. Organic liquid fertilizer (POC) from coffee skins and chitosan have the potential to address these issues due to their nutritional content and antimicrobial properties. This study aims to evaluate the effects of coffee skin POC and chitosan on the growth of liberica coffee pre-nursery. The research uses a factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two factors: doses of coffee skin POC (0, 20, 40, and 60 ml/l water) and chitosan (0, 4, 8, and 12 ml/l water). Observed parameters include plant height, leaf area, leaf count, root length, root volume, stem girth, and germination percentage. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and continued with the Honest Significant Difference (HSD) test at 5%. Results indicate that the best combination was 60 ml/l of coffee skin POC and 12 ml/l of chitosan (P3K3), which increased germination percentage from 46.6% to 100% and root length from 15.11 cm to 21.44 cm. Coffee skin POC and chitosan show potential as effective organic fertilizers for liberica coffee pre-nursery.
