Abstract

Community empowerment is a process designed to enhance the ability of individuals and communities to manage resources independently and sustainably. The Meranti Islands Regency, located in Riau Province, has significant maritime economic potential, particularly in the fisheries industry. Mekong Village, situated in this region, has demonstrated various advancements in food security and achieved success in national-level safe food village competitions. However, fishermen in Mekong Village face numerous challenges, including fluctuating fuel prices, rising operational costs for boats, and adverse weather conditions that limit fishing activities. Additionally, tin mining operations have altered aquatic habitats, negatively impacting fishermen's catches. This community service program aims to empower the community by providing support to fishermen groups in Mekong Village through the provision of shrimp nets. The program seeks to alleviate the economic burden on fishermen and improve their welfare by facilitating access to more efficient production methods. This intervention aims to enhance competitiveness, strengthen economic resilience, and build a sustainable empowerment paradigm in the fisheries sector of Meranti Islands Regency
