Abstract

Speaking is important to improve students' communication skills. Teachers must be more creative in developing technology-based learning media to attract students' learning processes. The aim of this research is to find out whether there is a significant effect of using animation video based storytelling on students’ speaking skills of second grade students at MTs LPM Gema Kampar Kiri Hulu. The design of this research was experimental. This research uses a quantitative approach. The total population in this research was 83 students which consist of four classes. The sample for this research was students in classes VIII1 and VIII2 of MTs LPM Gema Kampar Kiri Hulu. Researchers have given a pre-test at the first meeting and treatment during three meetings using animated video-based storytelling media such as (1) pre-teaching, (2) while-teaching. (3) post-teaching. And at the last meeting the researcher gave a post-test. Data in research through pretest and post-test. Data analysis used SPSS version 25. The results showed that the average student score on the pre-test was 67.46 and the post-test was 76.33. There were significant differences in mean scores. After being given treatment, there was an increase of 8.87 with a significance level of 0.05. Answered H0 and Ha because t calculated is 12.900 > t table is 1.71088. Finally, the researcher concluded that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted, there was a significant effect of the use animation video based storytelling on the speaking skills of second grade students at MTs LPM Gema Kampar Kiri Hulu.
