Abstract
Ability to Write Procedural Texts for Grade VII Students of SMP Negeri 14 Kota Dumai for the 2022/2023 Academic Year. The background of this research is the ability to write procedural texts for class VII students of SMP Negeri 14 Dumai City. Based on the results of observations, there are obstacles faced by students in writing procedural texts, that not all students are able to compose text structures and linguistic rules, lack of student creativity in imagination so that students are less able to write procedural texts, students have difficulty writing procedural texts systematically in sequence/ the stage of implementing procedure text, especially when writing vocabulary and determining suitable words in developing sentences for an activity precisely and clearly because they are not used to expressing facts and ideas in written communication. The purposes of this study were (1) to describe, analyze and interpret data on the ability to write procedural texts for class VII students of SMP Negeri 14 Kota Dumai for the 2022/2023 academic year in terms of text structure. (2) Describe, analyze and interpret data on the ability to write procedural texts for class VII students of SMP Negeri 14 Dumai City for the 2022/2023 Academic Year in terms of language rules. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method. The data collection technique used in this study was by using a research instrument in the form of a text writing test, students were given a procedure text writing test with a predetermined topic. Based on the results and discussion of research on the ability to write procedural texts for class VII students of SMP Negeri 14 Kota Dumai for the 2021/2022 Academic Year, it can be concluded: 1. The average ability to write procedural texts for class VII students of SMP Negeri 14 Dumai City for the 2022/2023 Academic Year is seen from the text structure of 78, the ability to write procedural texts for class VII students of SMP Negeri 14 Kota Dumai seen from the structure of the text is in a good category. 2. The average ability to write procedural texts for class VII students of SMP Negeri 14 Kota Dumai for the 2022/2023 Academic Year, seen from the language rules of 75, means that the ability to write procedural texts for class VII students of SMP Negeri 14 Dumai City, seen from the linguistic rules, is in the sufficient category. The results of the hypothesis that has been submitted can be said that the hypothesis is accepted because the range of values proposed by the hypothesis is 70-79, while the average value seen from the structure of the text is 78 and the average value is seen from the linguistic rules of 75, it can be concluded that the hypothesis is accepted.
