Abstract

This research is motivated by changes back to the education curriculum in Indonesia due to the learning crisis in Indonesia marked by the low literacy, numeracy and science rates of Indonesian students in the PISA 2018 test. Therefore, the Ministry of Education and Culture launched an independent learning curriculum that is expected to be able to fix this learning crisis. In implementing the independent learning curriculum, the government gives authority and responsibility to each school to develop a curriculum that suits the needs and culture of each school. Therefore, this study was conducted to find out how the perception of teachers in the field of science studies on the understanding of the independent learning curriculum, especially in public junior high schools in Siak Hulu District, Kampar T.A Regency 2022/2023. This research method uses a survey method with data collection conducted through interviews and distribution of questionnaires to three schools, namely SMPN 01 Siak Hulu, SMPN 04 Siak Hulu, and SMPN 06 Siak Hulu with a total of 23 respondents. Data analysis techniques use qualitative descriptive techniques. The questionnaire distributed was a semi-open questionnaire consisting of 3 aspects, 9 indicators and 25 questions. The results showed that the concept of freedom of thought made students dare to express opinions and made students active during class. The concept of character education can form good character such as being responsible, courageous, honest, respecting the opinions of friends and not discriminating against friends. Teachers have used diverse learning resources to realize fun learning concepts. In the policy aspect, teachers agreed with changes to UN, USBN, RPP, and PPDB. In the aspect of teacher and student implementation, it is still in the adjustment stage to implement an independent learning curriculum in the implementation of learning.
