Abstract

In reporting news, media have the ability to construct and frame reality. The researcher considers that the case of the Constitutional Court's decision on the age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates in 2024 has captured public attention and is widely discussed in mass media from various media perspectives. This study aims to analyze how the news framing of the Constitutional Court's decision on the age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates is presented in Tempo magazine's editions of October 23-29 and November 13-19, 2023. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, using Pan and Kosicki's framing analysis model, which consists of four structural elements: syntactical structure, script structure, thematic structure, and rhetorical structure. The results show that Tempo, in its reporting, highlights the existence of power interest conflicts and political strategies in Indonesia. Tempo frames this Constitutional Court decision as involving a conflict of interest implicating the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court himself. This conflict of interest is evidenced by the dismissal of Anwar Usman from his position as the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court. This reporting adequately illustrates the current state of judicial integrity in Indonesia.
