Abstract
This research was motivated by the low level of students' critical thinking skills inIslamic Education subject at Senior High School YLPI Riau, Pekanbaru City. Astudent needed to have critical thinking skills because critical thinking couldmakesomeone more open-minded and communicate better. The purpose of this studywasto determine the level of students’ understanding of the inquiry-based learningmodel in Islamic Education to determine the level of students’ critical thinking skills inIslamic Education, and to determine the influence of the inquiry-based learningmodel on students’ critical thinking skills in Islamic Education. This researchwasaquantitative study with a correlational approach conducted at Senior High School YLPI Riau, Pekanbaru City. The population of this study consisted of 145 students, and a sample of 109 students was taken. Data were collected using questionnairesand analyzed using descriptive and hypothesis testing. The results of this studyshowed that the level of students’ understanding of the inquiry-based learningmodel in Islamic Education was very good, and the level of students’ critical thinkingskillswas also very good. It was found that the hypothesis stating that there was aninfluence of the inquiry-based learning model on students’ critical thinking skills at Senior High School YLPI Riau was accepted. The influence of the inquiry-basedlearning model on students’ critical thinking skills at Senior High School YLPI Riauwas quite strong. If the inquiry-based learning model was implemented, it couldimprove students’ critical thinking skills by 56.2%; conversely, if the model was not implemented, it could decrease students’ critical thinking skills by 56.2%. It couldbeconcluded that there was an influence of the inquiry-based learning model onstudents’ critical thinking skills.
