Abstract

The production and profits generated by oil palm plantations are currently still relatively low, the low production of palm oil is mainly due to the application of technology and processing of plantations that are not in accordance with the recommendations. especially for independent oil palm plantations. This study aims to (1) the characteristics of oil palm farmers in Pelalawan District, Pelalawan Regency (2) Oil palm farming of independent smallholders in Pelalawan District, Pelalawan Regency and (3) the dominant factors that influence the profits of oil palm farmers in Pelalawan District, Pelalawan Regency. To answer the objectives of this study, it was analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis of farming and multiple linear regression models estimated by the OLS (Ordinary Leas Square) method which were calculated using multiple linear regression equations with a total sample of 30 farmers. The results of this study indicate that the average age of farmers is 47 years which indicates that they are still productive with an average education level of 7 years or equivalent to elementary school. in terms of farming experience, his experience is 15 years and the average number of family dependents is 3 people and the average land area of oil palm farmers is 3 Ha. In oil palm farming the use of labor is 6.68 (HOK/Ha/Year) the average use of fertilizer is 257.53 Kg, the average use of herbicides is 3.56 liters/year with the use of 5 units of equipment in one year on average the average farmer spends a production cost of IDR 845,412.22/year. while the average income is IDR 108,019,145.47/year with a profit of IDR 80,663,722.71/year with an RCR of 3.95. the dominant factors affecting profits are labor wages and the price of KCL fertilizer at a significant level of 5% to the profits of oil palm farmers. Meanwhile, the variable prices for urea, TSP, dolomid and herbicide prices do not significantly affect the profits of oil palm farmers. the coefficient of determination (R2) is 0.7676. This shows that 76.76 percent of the variable amount of production can be explained by price variables, labor wages, seed prices, depreciation costs, urea fertilizer costs, KCL fertilizer costs, TSP fertilizer costs and the cost of dolomid fertilizer. Meanwhile, 23.24 percent is influenced by other variables not included in the model.
