Abstract

Bandar Seikijang District is one of the sub-districts in Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province, with a potential chili-producing area. The purpose of this study was to analyze (1) characteristics and profiles of cayenne pepper farming, (2) cultural technology, use of production factors, production costs, production, income, efficiency of cayenne pepper farming, (3) marketing including marketing institutions and channels, marketing functions, marketing costs, margin and profit margin, marketing efficiency, and farmer's share. This research was conducted using a survey method. Data analysis using descriptive qualitative and descriptive quantitative. The results showed (1) that the average age of farmers was 37 years while the retailers and collectors were 37 years and 39 years, the longest education at the high school level was an average of 11 years, the average farmer's farming experience was 6 years while retailers are 4 years and collectors are 5 years and the average number of family dependents is 3 people, namely at the level of farmers, retailers and collectors. The source of capital for cayenne pepper farmers in Seikijang village is their own capital and family loan capital with an average initial capital expenditure of Rp.18,000,000 are included in the micro business category. The number of workers between 1-3 people. (2) sowing the variety seeds used using high-yielding hybrid seeds, the method of sowing is to prepare a place for sowing polybags, for example, putting soil and manure in a ratio of 3:1, tilling the soil using tractor and hoe technology, fertilizing, planting, watering. Production of cayenne pepper 488 , 70 Kg/Garapan/Mt, income of cayenne pepper IDR 20,701,905 Kg/Garapan/MT, average net income IDR 9,254,416,- Arable/Mt and chili business cayenne pepper is feasible to be developed, labor production costs are Rp. 6,794,214 arable/Mt while the lowest cost is the cost of seeds, which is Rp. 31,161 arable/Mt. (3) Marketing of cayenne pepper consists of 2 marketing channels. Channel I: farmers - collectors - retailers - consumers. Channel II: farmers - retailers - consumers. Not all marketing agencies carry out marketing functions. The marketing margin for channel I is Rp. 5,925/Kg and channel II is Rp. 5,300/Kg, the marketing profit for channel I is Rp. 3,962.06/Kg and channel II is Rp. 4,425.48/Kg, the cayenne pepper marketing channel for channel I collectors is with a marketing efficiency of 4 .38% while the marketing of cayenne pepper retailers channel II with an efficiency value of 1.91%, but marketing channel II is more efficient than marketing channel I.
