Abstract

This research aims to find out teachers’ perceptions of the use of ChatGPT in designing reading literacy questions and examining the prompts teachers use to design questions. This research applied questionnaire and interview instruments involving 120 Indonesian language teachers in Riau Province. The results show that teachers’ perceptions of the use of ChatGPT in designing reading literacy questions are generally positive. In addition, by using well-designed prompts, teachers can make complex reading literacy questions. However, the essential role of teachers cannot be replaced by ChatGPT. In conclusion, amidst the positive response to the benefits of ChatGPT, teachers must have skill at evaluation of the reading literacy questions generated by ChatGPT and adjust them to learning objectives and student needs.
