Abstract

This thesis aims to find out the Space Contemporary Dance by Mu'ammar Ghadafi in Pekanbaru, Riau. This dance was created by a choreographer named Mu'ammar Ghadafi in 2020. It was first performed at the PASTAKOM (Contemporary Dance Market) event at the Pekanbaru Cultural Park. The purpose of this dance is to educate the younger generation so that they do not fall into sexual deviation. Space Contemporary Dance lasts approximately 7 minutes. This research uses a descriptive method by using qualitative data. The data collection is taken by observation, interviews and documentation. In this study, the research subjects consisted of 5 people; 1 choreographer (Mu’ammar Ghadafi), 3 dancers (Muhammad Sukri, Izadri dan Iqbal), and 1 musician (Sulaiman). It used Soedarsono's theory. Space Contemporary Dance has elements in the dance movements such as igal, acrobatics, jumping, body writhing, hand and zapin fist movements. The floor design in this dance gives the audience a wider and more varied perspective, allowing the audience to clearly capture every detail of the dancer's movements and expressions. The music used in Space contemporary dance is a digital musical instrument. The musical instruments used including Tank Drum, Cello, Tambur, Contrabass, Flute. The dramatic design in this contemporary dance is in the form of a single cone dramatic design because the stages of the flow in this dance are increasing towards the climax and slowly continuing to the decreasing stage. The dynamics in this dance are changes in level and tempo. The main theme is about human social life in relation to the God of the universe. It also raises the search for self-identity and freedom. The clothes used in this dance only uses short black pants (above the knee) without top. Meanwhile, the make-up in this dance uses beautiful and bold make-up. This dance does not use props, only shawl accessories and uses a proscenium stage in the Cultural Park.
