Abstract

This research aimed to identify the values and to examine the political behavior of youth who have the right to vote in the context of the 2024 General Election (Pemilu). The research method used is phenomenology which allows researchers to deeply understand the experiences and perceptions of youth. The research subjects consist of adolescents who meet the criteria to participate in the election, selected through purposive sampling to ensure a diversity of perspectives. This research approach is based on three models proposed by Dennis Kavanagh, a political analysis expert from the United Kingdom, providing a framework for understanding the political preferences of adolescents. The findings reveal three main approaches that influence the political preferences of adolescents in choosing a presidential candidate for the 2024 election. The first approach is the sociological approach, which emphasizes the influence of organizational environments such as family, school, and peer groups in shaping the initial political preferences of adolescents. Adolescents tend to be influenced by the dominant values and political views within their social environment. The second approach is the psychological approach, which includes the influence of candidate characteristics. In this approach, adolescents tend to choose a presidential candidate based on personal attributes such as traits, attitudes, and character. Factors such as personality, honesty, and communication skills become important considerations for adolescents in making political decisions. The third approach is the rational approach, which includes the influence of the candidate's track record. Adolescents consider the achievements and performance of candidates in previous leadership positions, as well as their proposed work programs. The candidate's track record is highly considered by adolescents as a basis for making decisions to choose a presidential candidate. This research provides important insights into how values and political preferences are formed and influence the political decisions of adolescents in the context of the 2024 General Election. These findings can be used to develop more effective political education strategies for adolescents.
