Abstract

Information technology has both positive and negative impacts, one of which is the emergence of hoax news. The consequences of this hoax news can cause feelings of anxiety, fear and discomfort, this is what happened to the hoax news phenomenon on Jl. A Yani uses social media which creates fear of crime. The formulation of the research problem is to find out how the public responds to the hoax news about robbers. Then this research was analyzed using a theoretical approach consisting of factual fear and anticipatory fear, the research method used was descriptive quantitative which produced the following data, emotional reactions by each human being with feelings of threat, anxiety, and danger based on what happened to them. environment. Then this fear is divided into two, namely actual fear and anticipatory fear. The analysis regarding anticipatory fear continues with the existence of a reciprocal relationship with actual fear which is influenced by socio-economic characteristics, information about crime, and intermediate factors.
