Abstract

The illocutionary act is an important aspect of pragmatics, which studies language use in context. Illocutionary acts can be found in a variety of communication, including novels and other literary works. These acts convey the speaker's aim, function, or power of speech. The researcher is interested in illocutionary acts since communication breakdowns continue to occur in daily life. This misunderstanding occurs between the speaker and the listener. Reducing misunderstandings requires understanding speech acts, a branch of linguistics that focuses on the intention of utterances. This study conducted a descriptive qualitative analysis to analyze the types of illocutionary speech acts in Migration Movie. The writer uses library research because the writer uses the document to be analyzed that is in the form of a movie script. The data in this research is the utterances that contain illocutionary acts used by the characters in the movie script “Migration Movie”. The researcher focused on analyzing illocutionary acts and the five types of illocutionary acts; representative, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative in Migration Movie The result of the study, the researcher found 50 illocutionary acts data that appeared in Migration Movie. The researcher use John Searle's theory to classify types of Illocutionary Acts. Based on this theory, there are 5 types of illocutionary acts. In Migration Movie, the researcher found 18 types of representative illocutionary acts, 16 types of directive illocutionary acts, 8 types of commissive illocutionary acts, 6 types of expressive illocutionary acts and 2 types of declarative illocutionary acts. It can be concluded that the illocutionary act that appears a lot in Migration Movie is of the representative type.
