Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine whether the use of the ELSA Speak application in learning English was able to improve the speaking ability of eighth grade students at SMPN 1 SIAK HULU. This research focused on pre-experimental research in one class pre-test and post-test. The population of this research is class VII SMPN 1 SIAK HULU in the academic year 2024/2025 which consists of 337 students. The researcher took one class as the research sample, namely class VII which consisted of 33 students. The data were obtained from the speaking ability test while doing the dialogue in the pre-test and post-test. It can be concluded that the results of this study indicate that the use of the ELSA Speak application is able to improve students' speaking skills which includes grammar, content, pronunciation, vocabulary and fluency. This can be seen in the average score of students in the pre-test, which is 54.24 and increases to 76.30 in the post-test. This means that the use of the ELSA Speak application in learning English can improve students' speaking skills in class 7 at SMP NEGERI 1 SIAK HULU.
