Abstract

The problem of environmental hygiene is a long-term problem whose handling requires continuous effort and cannot be postponed or ignored. Any delay in handling it will cause the effort to overcome it to be even more difficult. In Indonesia, waste is an object that is underestimated by the community, as the population increases from year to year, so that the need for household goods is getting bigger, and causes bad impacts such as garbage. Garbage is one of the environmental problems that until now cannot be handled properly, especially in big cities. Garbage that is not managed properly will cause a decrease in the health and aesthetic value of the environment due to water and air pollution and the development of pests and diseases so that residential areas around the pile of garbage are no longer suitable for residents. In Law No. 18 of 2008 it has also been explained that waste is the remainder of human daily activities or natural processes in the form of solid or semi-solid organic or inorganic substances that are biodegradable or non-biodegradable which are considered no longer useful and are disposed of in the environment. Problems in waste management do not only occur in big cities, but also occur in small towns which have a fairly high density and high economic activity as well. One of them is Mandau Subdistrict, which is a small category that is included in the Bengkalis Regency area, which is currently experiencing problems in waste management. Judging from the type of data, the research approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. It can be concluded that the problem of environmental hygiene is a long-term problem whose handling requires continuous effort and cannot be postponed or ignored. Any delay in handling it will cause the effort to overcome it to be even more difficult. In Indonesia, waste is an object that is underestimated by the community, as the population increases from year to year, so that the need for household goods is getting bigger, and has a bad impact.
