Abstract

Researchers want to know students' perceptions in speaking performance. In conducting this research, researchers used a mixed method, a combination of quantitative and qualitative. The population is class IX.3 students, totaling 30 people. The techniques used in this research are observation and questionnaires. After conducting research, the results of observations were that some students did have slight problems in the three aspects, namely self-confidence, body language and fluency. Based on the results of a questionnaire from 30 students as a sample who answered the questionnaire regarding students' perceptions of their speaking performance abilities Based on the results of a questionnaire from 30 students as a sample who answered the questionnaire regarding students' perceptions of their speaking performance abilities, on the self-confidence indicator, students' answers were 62.00% in the ''agree'' category. and is at a high level of difficulty, the difficulty is in the high category. Furthermore, on the body language indicator, students' answers were 66.09% in the ''agree'' category. and is at a high level of difficulty. Lastly, on the fluency indicator, students' answers are 66.55% in the agree category and at a high level of difficulty. This is in accordance with the results of observations made by researcher, students difficult to be confident when speaking performance, so students have difficulty speaking fluently and have difficulty mastering the stages because they rarely use body language.
