Abstract

Analysis of Blade Count Variation on the Chopping Output of Corn Stalk Chopper Machine for Compost Production Aldi Prayoga1, Irwan Anwar2 Mechanical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Islamic University of Riau Jl. In this study, there were 2, 3, and 4 blades. The speeds are 750 rpm, 850 rpm, and 1100 rpm. The results of the study showed variations using 4 blades resulted in the highest chop, which was 100 kg/hour. Variations using blade 3 with a speed of 1100 rpm produce 90.9 kg/hour, and variations using blade 2 with a speed of 1100 rpm produce 88 kg/hour. The calculation of the analysis of variation using 4 blades resulted in the highest 2-5 cm chop, which was 60.4%. The largest percentage of chopped >5 cm was obtained at blade variation 2 yielding 47.1%. While the most chopped <2 cm was also produced with 4 blade variations, namely 25.2%. The results of the analysis obtained that the best treatment for chopping elephant grass stems was in the variation of blade 4 because it was able to produce pieces of 2-5 cm and under 2cm the highest compared to blades 2 and 3. Based on the conclusions of the research, it was found that (1) variations in shape knife affects the chopping result (2) the time difference in the chopping process also affects the chopping result. In order to get maximum results from the chopping process, further research is recommended to sharpen the blade often so that it is sharper so that the chopping process is more perfect.
