Abstract

This study aims to find out the meanings and symbols contained in dance extracurricular activities offered at BATU HAMPAR High School. The formulation of the research problem is: This research is a self-development program for dance extracurricular activities at SMA NEGERI 1 BATU HAMPAR? The theory used for this research according to Widaryanto (2007:2) The oldest art is dance. That the art of dance is older than other arts. Dance has different forms, characteristics and functions around the world. This study uses a qualitative method that uses data collection techniques by means of observation, interviews and documentation. This research was conducted at SMA NEGERI 1 BATU HAMPAR. The results of the study show that dance extracurricular activities at SMA NEGERI 1 BATU HAMPAR are dance extracurricular activities performed by students totaling 5-9 people where students make the initial movements of silence and picking flowers, what is needed in practice is speakers and tapak sirih .
