Abstract

The ability of class VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Kepenuhan Hulu, Rokan Hulu Regency for the 2022/2023 school year is still categorized as low, this is caused by several factors such as the lack of student concern for learning at school and the lack of learning models provided by teachers at school. This research was conducted to find out and describe the ability of class VII students at SMP N 1 Kepenuhan Hulu, Rokan Hulu Regency, in the academic year 2022/2023 in writing rhymes. This study used a descriptive quantitative method by taking the overall sample consisting of 58 students. Data techniques in this study were carried out in four ways, namely observation, interviews, test techniques, and data analysis techniques. The theory used in this study is the theory of skill in writing rhymes from Eko Sugiarto. The results of the research that the writer did at school can be concluded that the Ability to Write Pantun Class VII Students of SMP Negeri 1 Kepenuhan Hulu Rokan Hulu Regency in the first rhyme is in the "Insufficient" category while in the second rhyme the ability to write rhyme students is in the "Enough" category. This can be seen from the acquisition of an average student test score of 51.72 in the interval value range (60-64) with a conversion result of 1.66 with less criteria and an average score of 72.79 in the interval value range (70-74) with a conversion result of 2.33 or with sufficient criteria. Most students do not understand how to write rhymes according to the conditions. Thus the ability to write rhymes for class VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Kepuhan Hulu for the 2022/2023 school year has not yet reached the KKM
